[Download] Huawei Honor 8 Lite Root and TWRP recovery

Honor 8 Lite TWRP

The Honor 8 Lite users can now download the latest TWRP recovery in the form of version 3.1.1. TWRP is a must have tool if you are looking to install custom ROMs, which bring lots of cool features and stuff.

You can also root Honor 8 Lite easily with the help of TWRP recovery. Once you install TWRP, simply copy the root package file, the SuperSU zip file, and then use the recovery’s Install menu to install the SuperSU file and gain root access. Here’s how to do this all.

How to Root Honor 8 Lite and install TWRP Recovery

We would first install TWRP recovery on Honor 8 Lite, and use that to gain root access on your device.

  1. Setup ADB and Fastboot on your computer.
  2. To be able to install TWRP recovery, you need to first unlock bootloader of your Honor 8 Lite. For this, go to this Huawei unlock page, and follow the instructions. You may need to create an account for this, as Huawei will send you the unlock code on your email ID provided here.
Note: Until bootloader is unlocked, you cannot install TWRP recovery, and cannot root your Honor 8 Lite either.
  3. Download the TWRP recovery file for your Honor 8 Lite from here. Filename: Huawei-Honor-8-lite-twrp-3.1.1-0.img (23.89MB)
  4. Also download the SuperSU zip file from here. This will be used to root the Honor 8 Lite using TWRP.
  5. Copy the SuperSU file to your device. No need to transfer the TWRP file.
  6. Create a folder called android123 on your device, and transfer the TWRP file into it.
  7. Open a command window on PC in andriod123 this folder. Do this:
    • For this, go to android123 folder, and then in the address bar, type cmd and hit enter key. A command window will open, and its folder location will be android123.
  8. Now, connect your Honor 8 Lite to the PC with a USB cable (preferably the cable that came with your device).
└ Check your phone’s screen, if it asks for “Allow USB debugging”, accept it by selecting OK/Yes.
  9. Reboot your Honor 8 Lite into bootloader mode (also called fastboot mode). Type this command in the command window and then hit enter key to run it.
    adb reboot bootloader
  10. Install TWRP recovery by issuing the following command. (If you want, you can shorten the filename as per your convenience and use that filename in the command below.)
    fastboot flash recovery Huawei-Honor-8-lite-twrp-3.1.1-0.img
  11. Boot into recovery mode by using the command below. You will see TWRP recovery.
    fastboot boot Huawei-Honor-8-lite-twrp-3.1.1-0.img
  12. In TWRP, Allow for System modifications performing the swipe action at bottom.
  13. Choose Install menu, and then select SuperSU file you transferred to your device in step 5 above. Swipe to confirm.
  14. That’s it. Your Honor 8 Lite is now rooted. Tap on Reboot System to restart the device.

The device will restart, and you will have root access. Find the SuperSU app in your app drawer. This app would help you manage root permissions for apps and services on your device.

If you ever need to reboot to recovery mode to use TWRP, then use the command adb reboot recovery for that, when the device is in powered on state.
