At the Galaxy Note 9 Unpacked 2018 event, Samsung also launched Bixby 2.0, an upgraded version of Bixby that is also the first to come preinstalled on a Samsung phone. According to the company, Bixby 2.0 has not only just gotten better at processing natural language and predicting user needs, but it has also improved when it comes to response times.
Bixby 2.0 comes with a bunch of fresh skills that Samsung wasted no time to showcase on stage. One such skill is that the digital assistant can now have conversations that are more natural with humans. You can, for instance, ask Bixby about concerts that will be happening in London over the weekend and even make a follow-up question enquiring about concerts on the following weekend without the need of requalifying the context in question.

When it comes to predicting user needs, Bixby 2.0 will now recommend things based on your personal taste. If you’ve made reservations in restaurants that serve seafood, for instance, asking Bixby for a new restaurant to go to will yield results based on reservations you’ve made in the past. Bixby will also take care of things like filling in the reservation details like the number of people, time, and so on, also based on your past choices. Even better is that with Bixby 2.0, you will be able to call Uber rides, something many should find useful. With all these, Samsung hopes that Bixby will become your true personal assistant.
Samsung claims Bixby 2.0 comes with improved response times, but if the on-stage presentation is anything to go by, this is far from the truth. Occasionally, the digital assistant failed to respond promptly to commands, with the presenter at some point forced to ask the audience to clap when it failed to respond after showing a new feature. Our hope is that this won’t translate to real world usage when the Galaxy Note 9 goes live beginning August 24th.
