Bell Optimus G release date scheduled for November 13

Leak time again! LG had already confirmed that the Optimus G would arrive in Canada with Bell, Telus, Rogers, and Sasktel. While a sometime in November release had been confirmed by all, Telus announced a November 13th release date a couple of days ago. As per a leaked internal doc received by our pals over at Mobile Syrup, it seems that Bell Canada would also be making the LG Optimus G available on November 13th. While no pricing details are revealed as yet, the no-contract pricing for the Bell Optimus G is expected to be around $649 CAD

Rogers has already started accepting pre-orders for the LG Superphone, and has priced the handset at $129 CAD on a 3-year plan and $599 CAD outright. With two of the big three Canadian carriers now set for a November 13th release, it would be fair to assume that Rogers would also make it available at around the same time, if not earlier. There is no word from Sasktel yet, on availability or pricing for the Optimus G.

For those who came in late, the LG Optimus G is the device on which the LG Nexus 4 has been based. Other than the Nexus design and branding, and the fact that the Nexus 4 comes with Android 4.2 right out of the box, the two devices are more or less the same, hardware-wise, with the Optimus G having expandable memory support. Here are the specs listed out for your reference:

  • 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4.7 inches HD (1280 × 720) True HD IPS+ display
  • 8 megapixel camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera
  • 16GB internal storage, microSD cards up to 64GB
  • Wi-Fi, HSPA 42mbps, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2100mAh battery
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich -Upgradable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in early 2013

What do you think? The specs match the LG Nexus 4, and even include expandable memory support which the Nexus won’t have.  On the other hand though, the Nexus 4 will ship with Android 4.2 on board, while the Optimus G won’t get Android 4.1 till early next year. Either way, if you are looking for a state-of-the-art handset packed with a lot of horsepower under the hood, you can’t go wrong with either.
