Update [January 12, 2019]: Asus has a new ZenFone Max Pro M2 update that bumps the software version to 15.2016.1812.179 and given its only a couple of weeks since the previous update came out, this version doesn’t have much, but it shouldn’t be ignored.
In addition to upgrading the security patch to December 2018, the update also optimizes camera interface and text translation, upgrades Touch Screen FW, and enhances noise reduction on FM Radio. This is the second software update for this device, which makes it another bug fixer, so be sure to grab the download once the OTA notification shows up.
Update [December 25, 2018]: Asus is rolling out the first software update for the ZenFone Max Pro M2. Coming in as software version 15.2016.1811.177, the update installs the November security patch, but the highlights features of the update are the introduction of EIS for the selfie camera and optimizing the UI for the notch.
In case you were hoping for the Pie update for Max Pro M2, you won’t find that one today. Though, Asus has begun rolling out its Pie update now, beginning with the ZenFone 5.
The file size of the Max Pro M2 update is 458MB, so make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi before downloading the update on your new ZenFone phone.

Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 Pie update
The Pie update for the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is expected to arrive at the end of January 2019.
As of today (January 12, 2019), Asus is yet to update its flagship device in ZenFone 5Z to Android 9 Pie (ZenFone 5 received it late last year, BTW), which highlights the slow rollout of the major Android update by the company.
