Asus announced the ZenFone Max Plus M1 in early 2018 and to many people’s surprise, it came preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat. This left many (potential) buyers questioning if and when the handset would be upgraded to Android Oreo and the one after, Android 9 Pie.
Well, in addition to our efforts to answer this question, this page also brings you everything else you need to know about the ZenFone Max Plus M1 software updates, both minor security updates and bug fixes as well as major Android OS upgrades.

ZenFone Max Plus M1 Oreo update
- Android 8.1 Oreo released on 14 November 2018
After nearly a year of waiting, Asus has finally released the update to Android 8.1 Oreo for the ZenFone Max Plus M1. The update also comes with a new Android security patch for the month of October 2018.
ZenFone Max Plus M1 Pie update
- Android Pie update not expected
Given that an update to Android Oreo would be its first and (perhaps) the only major OS upgrade the ZenFone Max Plus M1 ever gets, we don’t expect an update to Android 9 Pie officially. Whether the Android development community will be generous enough to give us a stable Pie-based custom ROM for the ZenFone Max Plus M1 remains unknown, but we hope so.
