After a long wait, Asus had finally unveiled its ZenFone 4 series phones (including the ZenFone 4) earlier this year. During the same launch event, the company had also confirmed that the ZenFone 4 series phones alongside the ZenFone 3 smartphones will all be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo.
In this post, however, we will only focus on the ZenFone 4’s Oreo update — what to expect and when to expect. However, dedicated posts for other phones in the ZenFone 4 as well as ZenFone 3 series phones will soon be published.
Asus ZenFone 4 Oreo update: What to expect
Akin to most of other the smartphones, the ZenFone 4 comes with the company’s custom skin called ZenUI 4.0 on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
For the unaware, ZenUI so far has been one of the heavily customized skins with lots of bloatware. But lately, Asus seems to have steered away from this approach. The company got rid of as much bloatware as possible on the ZenUI 4.0 while including some useful features like the Twin Apps.
With the Android 8.0 Oreo update, things should get even better. Not to mention, the ZenFone 4 will also receive all the new features which include picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, Autofill, Notification Dots and Channels, faster boot times, new emojis, and much more.
Asus ZenFone 4 Oreo update: When to expect
- Update confirmed
- Expected to release in December 2017 (in Taiwan at least)
Update [December 07, 2017]: Asus Taiwan already has the Oreo beta live in Taiwan, and its forums for the country, a team member from Asus confirmed that they plan to release the stable version of ZenFone 4 Oreo in December itself.
That would be incredible, seriously. Mainly because it took Asus tremendous amount of time to get Nougat rolling out last time around.
In the Android 8.0 beta discussion thread for the ZenFone 4 Oreo, a moderator let it be known to users that the feedback from the update is well received, and they are indeed working on the public release of the ZenFone 4 8.0 update. Moreover, one can hope for the Oreo release of ZenFone 4 in December. We presume that’s for Taiwan only, but hey, that also can be taken to mean January release for other countries and regions, including the US, India and Europe.
That said, when the update would roll out for ZenFone 4 variants like ZenFone 4 Max, Style, etc. is not known yet, but give or take 1-2 months and we think all ZenFone 4 sets should be running Oreo by the end of Quarter 1 of 2018. if everything goes smoothly.
