Asus Max Pro M2: Triple camera and small (not waterdrop) notch confirmed

We had previously reported on what looked like the spec-sheet leak of Asus’ upcoming phone, the Zenfone Max Pro M2. The twitter handle of Asus Indonesia had then announced the launch of the successor to Zenfone Max Pro M1 on December 11 in their country. Now, the same twitter handle has posted a tweet with an image render which more or less confirms the leaked specs-sheet.

The biggest news is undoubtedly the near-visual confirmation of a triple camera setup at the rear, which is unheard of in a phone that’s touted as a budget phone. Asus has been vociferous on Twitter about its competition with Xiaomi and the Zenfone Max Pro M2 phone is expected to compete with Redmi Note 6 Pro, and must hence cost about the same.

Although the exact camera specifications remain unknown at the moment, we do know that either the main lens at the rear or the front-facing camera is a 13MP snapper. Regardless, the mere presence of three cameras at the back gives it an advantage over the Xiaomi phone as far as novelty is concerned at least.

The image render also confirms a notched display, a change from the no-notch design of the predecessor, on the phone that houses the front camera as well as some sensors, making it impossible for it to sport the aesthetically pleasing waterdrop notch. Nonetheless, the notch is quite small and not at all a pain to the eye.

While the image obviously cannot elucidate us about the internal configuration, we’ve now reasons to believe the previously leaked specs-sheet might be accurate. This means the phone can come with Snapdragon 66o SoC, 4GB/6GB RAM variants, an enormous 5300mAh battery, and a 6-inch FHD+ display.

What do you think about the Max Pro M2? Would you consider buying it over the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Honor 8X?
