Asus announces Zenfone 3 Zoom with Dual-cameras and Zenfone AR with Google Project Tango cameras

Asus has announced two new Zenfone smartphones today at CES 2017, which is taking place in Las Vegas. Both the smartphones focus on camera technology and feature very good specs. The Zenfone 3 Zoom has a dual-camera setup, whereas the Zenfone AR has Google Project Tango camera technology.

Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom

The main feature of the Zenfone Zoom is the dual camera setup and how it uses it to take fancy photos. The camera setup looks very similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. There’s a 12MP Sony IMX362 SuperPixel camera that has an f/1.7 aperture. This is coupled with another 12MP sensor with a 59mm focal length that provides 2.3x optical zoom. It also has OIS, EIS, and can record 4K videos.

In the hardware department, the Zoom comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 625 processor, and a very large 5000mAh battery. RAM, internal storage and pricing isn’t known yet, but the device should go on sale in February with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on board.

Asus Zenfone AR

This is the second smartphone in the world to feature the Tango camera technology. The Zenfone AR is a beast of a smartphone, is designed well, and the camera placement looks great. The previous Tango phone, the Lenovo Phab2Pro, wasn’t much of a performer as it featured mid-range hardware.

The Zenfone AR has a 5.7 inch WQHD SuperAMOLED display, a Snapdragon 821 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 3300mAh battery, 8 MP front camera, and will come with Android 7.0 Nougat.

At the back, there are three different cameras. There’s a main 23MP unit, and then there’s a motion sensing camera and a depth-sensing camera for Augmented reality. The Zenfone AR can do both AR and VR as it supports Google’s Daydream as well.

Pricing and availability hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Asus did say that consumers can expect the Zenfone AR to be available sometime in Q2 2017.
