Back in the day when hackers didn’t run rampant on the mobile platforms, Google didn’t have to run a billion-dollar team just to keep the Android Security Bulletin running. As Google pushes to compete with iOS on the security front, all the small loopholes are finally being paved over.

In an attempt to make sure that Android Phone is more secure than it’s predecessors, Google has baked the DNS over TLS security feature into the operating system in Android P. (Also see Android P device eligibility list.) This ensures that your ISP cannot snoop through your search queries, thus helping you enjoy unchecked access to the World Wide Web.
But you can get this feature in your current Android device, too. Whether you are running Android 8.0 Oreo, Android 7.0 Nougat, or even Android 6.0 Marshmallow, you can get the Private DNS feature right now.
Thanks to Google’s sister company Jigsaw, you can secure your DNS with the Intra app. Fair warning, the app is still under development and although it works flawlessly on our Oreo powered device, you might face some jumps and skips every now and then.
- Download and install the Intra app from the Google Play Store.
- Open the app and press the “Enable Protection” button and you’re done!
- Additionally, you can change the secure DNS server that the app uses (Google or Cloudflare).
- To see the recent DNS queries being sent out of your device, enable the “Show recent queries“.
