Usually, it takes longer to roll out software updates to unlocked models, basically because the software has to be optimized to work on all carriers and not just a single carrier before it’s released.
It is for this reason that carrier variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the U.S. started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo updates in June 2018, yet it’s only now that the same is happening to the unlocked variants.
The Oreo update was already available for the Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, so this basically completes the Oreo rollout in the US for the Galaxy S7 handsets. If you are in Canada, you are covered too.
Coming in as software version G930UUEU4CRG2 for the S7 and G935UUEU4CRG2 for the S7 Edge and weighing about 1.5GB, the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge updates install Experience 9.0 that is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Thanks to this update, you’ll be getting plenty of new features, both from Samsung and Google, but since it’s an OTA download, the wait might go all the way to the weekend or even next week.
You can stick around until the download notification shows up, but you can also try forcing the update via the device’s Settings menu. While doing so, ensure you have enough battery juice and a stable Wi-Fi connection to avoid any unwanted interruptions during the upgrade.
