Android Oreo release for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge set for May 2018 in Canada

Galaxy S7 Edge oreo update

A few days ago, we bumped into certifications by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA), where Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge had been cleared with Android 8.0 Oreo. Typically, it takes several weeks for a device to receive an update after it is certified by the WFA, which puts the release date to somewhere in May.

And indeed Canadian carrier Fido has just confirmed this on its official forums website, that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Oreo updates will be ready in May. Of course, as with any other software update, you can’t be sure with the exact date, which is probably why Fido hasn’t given one.

Having finished rolling out Android Oreo to the flagship Galaxy S8 and Note 8, the next phase was always going to see the S7 and S7 Edge join in. Also, the fact that the Galaxy S6 got Nougat in April 2017 makes it right to expect the S7 pair to start receiving Oreo this April in markets with non-carrier models, mostly in Europe and Asia.

Other notable mentions on Fido’s list are Huawei’s P10 and P10 Plus and the LG G6, all of which should receive Oreo this month.
