Android One Marshmallow Update Release Date

Google’s Android One devices, which launched with the promise of guaranteed Android updates directly from Google for up to 2 years will be sure to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

However, don’t expect the update to hit your Android One devices as soon as Google announces Android 6.0 on Sept. 29th. We expected the same back in 2014 when Lollipop released but only to find that Google released the update after almost 90 days of Lollipop’s official release.

So if you were wondering Marshmallow update for your Android One device would rollout alongside Nexus devices, you’d be wronged. Android One devices are budget devices, and delaying the update is how Google will remind you of that.

We expect the Android One Marshmallow update to hit by the end of 2015 or early in 2016. Also, note that, back when Lollipop released in 2014 there were only a few Android One devices and yet it took Google so long to release the Lollipop update to them. So now with more Android devices, in more parts of the world, Google may release the Marshmallow update even slower on Android One devices.

As for the performance question, we guess Android One devices will be able to handle Marshmallow update just fine. The thing is, Marshmallow doesn’t overhaul the UI on Android like Lollipop did and doesn’t demand more hardware performance than Lollipop, and since Lollipop works good for Android One, Marshmallow update will too fare well.

Expected release: December 2015 OR early in 2016.
