Android 9 Pie release for Galaxy A8+ nears as device clears Wi-Fi Alliance

Galaxy A8 Plus Android Pie release

A month ago, Samsung Galaxy A8+ was spotted on Geekbench running Android 9 Pie, suggesting that the company had started internal testing ahead of the projected March 2019 release date.

With March almost here, the Galaxy A8+ has now been cleared by the Wi-Fi Alliance to receive the update to Android Pie. The cleared Pie-totting device has model number SM-A730F, which is the model that is sold in most markets across the globe.

The fact that the A8+ has been cleared by the WFA implies that the ball is now in Samsung’s court. However, we can only guess as to when the rollout will actually begin based on our past experience. If anything, the stable rollout should be ready within the next 4-8 weeks.

As noted earlier, Samsung had promised to release the Pie update for the 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+ in March 2019, but with software updates timelines, it’s never easy to keep promises.

That said, we won’t be surprised if the duo eventually made the switch to Pie outside the projected release window, but hopefully, we are wrong.
