With the release of Android 9 by Google — see availability details here — we are now seeing many custom ROMs based on AOSP Android 9 Pie code becoming available. AOSP being AOSP, it lacks Google Apps, also called Gapps in short. So, if you install AOSP ROMs to get the Android Pie unofficially, you will need to install the Gapps after installing your Android 9 ROM to get things properly working.
We have provided a list of Android 9 Gapps below that should work well for you after you have installed the custom ROM.
As these builds are the first ones, in quite an alpha stage, do not be surprised if things don’t get work out very smoothly. It’s easy to see that you may experience some issues with these Pie Gapps because of the development stage they are in at the moment.
So, the compatibility is still an issue, but given time, the Gapps for Android 9 Pie should come out good. The Gapps shared below, dated 20 August 2018, are already on a third revision.

OpenGapps package
The most trusted and universal source of the Gapps packages, the OpenGapps team, have now released the package for the Android 9 Pie too.
You can visit the link below and download the package that is compatible with your Android device yourself quite easily. You just have to select the application Architecture type, Android version, and the type of package you want (some apps, more apps, etc.)

General Gapps (ARM, AM64)
These Gapps should be working fine for all the devices with a given Architecture type (ARM, ARM64, etc.). These aren’t device-specific, which is hardly surprising as that’s how the Gapps usually go.
So, download the Gapps from below that matches your device’s Architecture type. ARM and ARM64 are two most popular Architecture types for Android.
If you need to find the Architecture type of your device, use the Droid Info app from the Play Store for that.
