Android 9 Pie for HTC U11 Life is now available as an OTA update

Like other smartphone vendors that have been recording diminishing returns, HTC entered the Android One arena in late 2017 with the HTC U11 Life, a different version from the one that sells in the U.S. with HTC’s custom software on top of AOSP.

Given Android One’s promise of timely software updates, it isn’t surprising that the HTC U11 Life is the first from the Taiwanese company to grab the update to Android 9 Pie. The new OS is available over the air and even though HTC hasn’t said a thing regarding the official commencement of the rollout, we already have a screenshot of the update, which also points to a new Android security patch for the month of October 2018.

The update, considering the stock experience it comes with, weighs about 720MB and since it’s airborne, it will take some time before all U11 Life units get the OTA download notification, so be patient.

It’s worth noting that the latest Pie update has nothing to do with the U.S. variant of the HTC U11 Life. Unlike the Android One version that comes with Oreo preinstalled, the U.S. model comes with Nougat and even though it has since been updated to Oreo, we don’t know if and when Pie will be released.
