At the end of August 2018, reports emerged from China that Xiaomi was planning to add the Mi 8 to its Android 9 Pie beta program. A week later, users of the device in the Asian country started receiving an MIUI 10 8.9.6 beta update based on Android 9 Pie and while the global variant of the Mi 8 missed out on this update, it is now available for download.

Owners of the Xiaomi Mi 8 across the globe can now join their Chinese counterparts in installing the latest Android 9 Pie beta on their devices as part of the new MIUI 10 8.9.11 beta update. This is great news for Mi 8 owners, especially since we also have the recovery file that you can use to install Pie manually rather than wait for the OTA.

It’s worth noting that this is beta software and that being a recovery file, you must have already installed MIUI beta in order to update manually to this version. We’ll be hunting for the fastboot file and update this post if and when we get it.
