Android 8.0 Oreo update coming soon for Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Xcover 4, A7 2017, A5 2017, and A3 2017; certified at Wi-Fi Alliance

Android Oreo certified

After the Galaxy S8 and Note 8, attention has now turned to the older Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with respect to Android Oreo update. It was always going to be this way, but the expected release date has remained a mystery for obvious reasons – until now, although not precise.

Thanks to a listing on the Wi-Fi Alliance, we can confirm that Samsung is planning to roll out Android Oreo to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the coming weeks. The WFA has cleared both the standard S7 and the S7 Edge, and not just the global version that comes as model no. SM-G930F/935F, but also other variants. Though, we are not seeing the certification for the US variants that come as SM-G930A/P/T/V yet. Maybe soon!

It seems the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge aren’t the only devices in Samsung’s immediate Oreo plans. The WFA has also cleared the Galaxy A3 2017, Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy A7 2017, as well as Galaxy Xcover 4 with Android 8.0, further implying that the two will receive the new OS in the coming weeks.

A3 2017 oreo

All of the certified devices have Oreo 8.0, but it’s not like we expected Samsung to roll out Oreo 8.1 to the S7, A3 2017 or Xcover 4.
