Android 7.0 Nougat update approved for US Galaxy S7 sets [AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular and Unlocked]

Samsung just received a clearance from the WiFi Alliance regarding the Android 7.0 Nougat update for their Galaxy S7 sets in USA. For now, no confirmation for the US Galaxy S7 edge Nougat approval at WiFi Alliance, but we know without a doubt that approval would come anytime now, and both sets will receive the update release together.

Yes, that includes AT&T Galaxy S7 (SM-G930A), Sprint Galaxy S7 (SM-G930P), T-Mobile Galaxy S7 (SM-G930T), Verizon Galaxy S7 (SM-G930V) and unlocked US Galaxy S7 (SM-G930U). So, the December release of Galaxy S7 Nougat build very much remains on the cards.

The Android 7.0 update is set for release in time fashion in Europe too, as we saw earlier that Vodafone Australia is testing the S7 Nougat update too.

The certification is for the Android 7.0 build (see screenshots), mind you, which is odd as we had learnt earlier that Samsung was looking to release the Nougat update with Android 7.1.1 build on-board, not the Android 7.0 build, which BTW, is currently under beta testing.

Anyway, even it it’s Android 7.0 that the Samsung Nougat update is based on, we’d gladly accept it than increase wait for the, and because of the, 7.1.1 build.

More screenshots, covering all Galaxy S7 variants that received the approval for Android 7.0 update in US today.

  1. Hey Kapil, I wonder if you could clarify something?

I own the SM-G930U, which you say here is getting the Nougat update back in December. Did you have actual info from Samsung on this, or was it something you thought was implied?

I’m not suggesting you’d intentionally mislead anyone, so please don’t take it that way, but as of 4/27/17, about 4 months after this article was published, the SM-G930U and SM-G935U are both still running Marshmallow. The Samsung Community forums are absolutely on fire over this, and Samsung has provided very little in the way of useful information. Though they’ve made some moderately misleading statements about just when this update would be available.

What really happened in December, about a week after this article was posted, was the SM-G930U and SM-G935U devices got a security update dated December 1. There were no other updates until March 27, and that one was dated March 1. These phones are still on the March 1 update, running Android 6.0.1.

There are a lot of very disgruntled folks venting some real heat over there because every time someone has an email or chat conversation with someone at Samsung, they’re told to wait a couple weeks, or “the update will be made available in the coming weeks”, and the update is coming “soon”. Last we heard from the moderators over there, there was going to be an April security update (not yet available), and that the Nougat update would be available in “4 to 6 weeks”. This was on 4/13, so we’re assuming Nougat will be available between 5/11 and 5/25.

Can you give some idea where you got the information on updates for the US unlocked S7? Cause we sure can’t track anyone down that knows anything at all.

    Cheers
