Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5113/P5110) [Leak]

Samsung seems to be working on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for multiple devices at once, which is surprising consider their earlier record. After leaked Jelly Bean updates for the international and T-Mobile Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 10.1, and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, now an official Jelly Bean OTA update has leaked for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, for the Cellular South (C Spire) P5113 model.

You can use the guide below to try out the leaked Jelly Bean update on your P5113, which will update it to the XARCLH firmware version. Those who have the P5110 model can also try it out as both devices are similar and the update works on both P5113/P5110 (P5100 (Wi-Fi+3G) variant users could try it but they would lose all 3G functionality).

Keep in mind that this is a leaked pre-release update and has not yet been officially released by Samsung and hence could have some issues and may be unstable for daily use, so you should wait for the official update to come out if you’re not comfortable with trying out pre-release firmware. But if still try it out, you can always flash back to an Android 4.0 firmware later if needed. You will also need a microSD card inserted in the tablet to be able to install the update.

So let’s see how the leaked Android 4.1 update can be installed on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5113/P5110).

Compatibility

This firmware and the guide below are compatible only and only with Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, model numbers P5113/P5110. It’s not compatible with other devices. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About tablet.

How to Install XARCLH Android 4.1 Update on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5113/P5110)

  1. [Important!] You will need to wipe data during this procedure. So make sure to backup your apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you. Backup all the SD card files, including camera photos, music, etc as well as those also might get erased during the flash as this is a leaked firmware.
  2. [Important!] Flash the stock UEBLH3 firmware on your tablet by following the guide → here. The UEBLH3 firmware is for the P5113 model, but will work on the P5110 as well, so go ahead and install if you have either of those two model numbers. The update will fail to flash on any other firmware or on custom ROMs, as it needs the tablet to be on the DDBLH3 firmware. Keep in mind that this may require you to wipe data on your tablet, so be sure to make a backup (see step 1).
  3. Download the Jelly Bean OTA update file.
Download OTA Update  |  Alternate Link
    Filename: GT-P5113_P5113XARCLH-OTA-P5113UEBLH3_XAR_280235988.zip  |  Size: 267 MB
  4. Copy the GT-P5113_P5113XARCLH-OTA-P5113UEBLH3_XAR_280235988.zip file to the external storage i.e the microSD card on your tablet.
  5. Turn off the tablet. Then, boot into stock recovery. To do so, hold down Volume Down + Power buttons (the volume down button is the volume key on the left i.e the one next to the power button) together, then when the screen turns on, let go of power button but keep holding the Volume down button for a few more seconds to boot into recovery.
In recovery, use the volume buttons to scroll up/down and the power button to select an option.
  6. Then, select apply update from external storage, then scroll to and select the GT-P5113_P5113XARCLH-OTA-P5113UEBLH3_XAR_280235988.zip file to start installation of the Jelly Bean OTA update.
  7. After installation is complete, go back to the main recovery menu.
  8. Scroll to wipe data/factory Reset and select it. Select Yes on next screen to wipe data.
  9. After wipe is complete, select reboot system now to boot up into the newly installed Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean firmware.

NOTE: To go back to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, you can install the UEBLH3 firmware by following the guide linked in step 2.

That’s it! The official leaked Jelly Bean Android 4.1 firmware is now running on your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Do let us know how it works, and also tell us about new things or any issues that you notice!
