A Nexus 5X user received Android 7.1.2 update over Android O !!

Nexus 5X user is receiving Android 7.1.2 update even over Android O

Google, a few days ago, had announced the second beta update for the Android Nougat 7.1.2 and had already started rolling it out to a bunch of eligible Pixel and Nexus handsets.

What’s interesting, though, is that users who are on Android O Developer Preview are also receiving the second 7.1.2 beta. At least, one of our readers has received it on its Nexus 5X. That’s an odd OTA, that rather downgrades the OS version than upgrade it. A similar issue was seen on Nexus 6 too, where users on 7.1.1. beta were receiving 7.0 as OTA.

Note: We don’t recommend you to take Android 7.1.2 update over Android O, as chances are more than not that you would need to factory reset your phone once back on 7.1.12 from Android O to be able to use it without apps crashing, giving you force close errors and such.

The OTA update that is shown in image above carries build NPG47I, and installs the Android 7.1.2 second beta. Moreover, weighing in at 1272.6MB, it is pretty huge in size as well.

The 7.1.2 beta update brings along a bunch of new features including the app shortcuts, image keyboard support, and the like. Also, the update adds the much-needed fingerprint gestures to the phone, i.e., you can simply swipe down on the fingerprint scanner to pull down the notification bar.

However, do make a note that the update is still in its pre-release state which means there can be a good number of bugs and errors. So, make sure you know what you are signing up for before installing the update.

Thanks for the tip, Tim!
