8GB Nexus 4 Sold Out again on Google Play!

I suppose there has not been a more elusive device in recent times, which has been so difficult to purchase as the LG Nexus 4. The extremely attractive $300 pricing for a device which packs all that awesome tech and Android 4.2 only made demand go up higher. In fact with increasingly rising demand, and not enough supply, Google set a per-account restriction for users so that nobody would be able to order more than two units from the Play Store. Even eBay has allotted a high-demand status to this device and has implemented seller restrictions for listing the Nexus 4.

Google got our hopes up earlier this week by getting the device back in stock on the Play Store. Of course, if you couldn’t place your order as an early bird, it was clear that a long wait was in store. Since then, the estimated shipping time had gone up to 9-10 weeks, and current status for the 8GB Nexus 4 is now back to Sold Out. In fact most people have probably become used to seeing the Sold Out status more often than the Add to cart button since its release, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to get sorted any time soon.

The 16GB version of the Nexus 4 which goes for $349 on the Play Store is still available for purchase, and if you were planning to get one, you’d best go ahead and place your order (pre-order actually considering you won’t be seeing it before at least 6-7 weeks). But better that than having to pay double price at retail channels, right?

The way it stands as of now, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to be able to get hold of the Nexus 4 easily, at least from Google Play that is. And even if we are able to order it, 6-7 weeks, and that’s the minimum, is a pretty long wait. We really wish Google and LG had handled this launch better. Such a sour purchase, or rather attempt to purchase experience for such an awesome device is a shame.
