The Japanese tech giant is enjoying its time in the limelight as it has finally broken through with its latest flagship. Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ2 at the MWC 2018 and after a long while, people are taking a liking to what the Xperia XZ2 has to offer.
But after the initial glamor fades away and you look at the finer details, there’s more than what you see on the surface. We’re looking at the lines to help you weigh your options with reasons why not to buy the latest flagship smartphone from Sony.

1. It isn’t cheap!
When you’re talking about a flagship Android smartphone, you can expect it to cost an upwards of $600 at a bare minimum. Sony Xperia XZ2 not only reaches that price point but goes much higher than its competitors when it comes to putting a hefty price tag.
The Xperia XZ2 is expected to cost around $980 for the unlocked variant, which is far above the Galaxy S9 ($719.99) and even the deal-camera Galaxy S9+ ($839.99). Moreover, we are going to see emerging brands like OnePlus bring out OnePlus 6 which will most likely beat everyone when it comes to price.
2. No OLED display yet
In an age where even Apple has been pushed to adopt the OLED display for the iPhone X, Sony is still living in the past. Not only is OLED better at reproducing deeper black and more vivid colors, but it makes way for popular features like Samsung’s Always On Display, but the Xperia XZ2 has none of this.
Packed with a 5.7-inch Full-HD (no 4K display this time) with their proprietary TRILUMINOS technology, the Xperia XZ2 has a great display. But when it comes to competing with the 2K display of the Galaxy S9 and the OLED panel with its rich color spectrum, the difference is quite obvious.

3. Still quite beefy
We’ve given the Galaxy S9 quite the grief for being thickest Galaxy device in years with its 8.5mm width, which is not good. In comparison, the Xperia XZ2 measure even more at 11.1mm at its thickest end, but it certainly won’t bulge out of your pocket that much.
Where the extra width matter is the bezels, as the Xperia XZ2 still has a considerable chin size. Although you get the new and improved 18:9 aspect ratio, the display simply is not as immersive as we’ve seen on devices like the Essential Phone.
4. No dual-lens camera setup
For the average user, the Xperia XZ2 camera offers more than you’ll ever need, and it is hands-down one of the best in the business. But in a world where dual-camera is quickly becoming an industry standard, it is disappointing to see Sony not bring it to the Xperia XZ2 lineup already.
What’s more absurd is that at the end of the Xperia XZ2 unveiling at the MWC 2018 event, Sony showcase their upcoming dual-camera technology. Since the technology will most likely be a part of the next premium Xperia series, it makes more sense for photography enthusiasts to wait for the next generation to get the dual-camera experience.

5. Goodbye headphone jack
Apple started the obnoxious trend of removing essential features from the modern smartphone, and Android OEMs have quickly followed. Sony continued its commitment to the 3.5mm headphone jack, but the little hole is finally gone and absent from the Xperia XZ2 this year.
The phone more than makes up for it with incredible audio features like dual front-facing speakers and better Bluetooth audio connectivity. But I’m you’re an old-timer who likes their music wired, Xperia XZ2 is a bit disappointing.
