We were all super excited when Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android but not anymore working at Google, admittedly leaked out a new device in the making, dubbed as Essential phone. From the tiny glimpse of the smartphone, we could just make out that it is expected to feature a bezel-less display.
Last month, the specs of this mystery device turned up on GFXBench, to reveal a high-end device powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB RAM.
Fast forward to today and we have yet another leak (or tease rather) of the Essential smartphone shrouded in darkness. The teaser image comes from none other than the official Twitter account of the company. And it reveals yet another interesting feature of the device. There seems to be a 360 degree camera perched on top of the device.

We’re not really sure how this 360 degree camera attaches to the device though. Does the Essential smartphone come with a modular connector, perhaps something similar to the Moto Mods? What exactly is the essential part of the Essential smartphone? Will it run Android or some other new software? Andy Rubin sure does know how to keep us on our toes with limited teasers and reveals. We’re literally dying to know here.

In the meantime, Benjamin Geskin, who’s known for his popular renders of upcoming devices, has tweeted out a new image of the Essential smartphone.
The Essential phone may receive a 5.7-inch or 5.9-inch display with the same 18:9 aspect ratio found on the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8. But we’re not a hundred percent sure on that, so don’t take this as final word on the matter. Although, we think it will surely feature a bezel-less display.

The Essential smartphone is expected to be manufactured in collaboration with Foxconn International Holdings. Andy Rubin has planned to release the mystery device around the middle of this year, so we’re not that far from an actual release date.
