ZTE announces new Android smartphones in Russia

Taking the stage in a press event in Russia, attended by high ranking officials at ZTE, the Chinese manufacturer made the announcement that it is now the fourth largest phone manufacturer in the world, while unveiling a handful of new Android smartphones.

The first of these is the ZTE Grand X LTE T82, a 4.3-inch dual band LTE-enabled smartphone with a qHD resolution display and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. There’s always an 8 megapixel camera on the back, 1.3 megapixel snapper on the front, 4GB storage, 1GB RAM, and a 1900 mAh battery. The Android version it is running wasn’t mentioned, but is probably running Android 4.0.

Next up is the ZTE V889M, which is a dual SIM smartphone with a 4.0-inch WVGA display, and sports a 1.0GHz dual-core MTK6577 processor, 512MB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, a 1650 mAh battery, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The rear camera is capable of shooting videos at 1080p resolution, while the front camera can take 720p ones.

Then there’s the ZTE V887, which comes with a large 5-inch display with a measly resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Other than that, other specs include a 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 5 megapixel camera, and a 2000 mAh battery. The OS is expected to be Android 4.0.

The ZTE V790 is the most modest of all the phones announced by ZTE, sporting a 3.5-inch display of HVGA resolution and dual SIM slots. The specs under the hood include a 1GHz MSM7225A processor, 512MB RAM, microSD slot for expandable storage, 3.2 megapixel camera, a 1200 mAh battery, and Android 4.0. Nothing particular noteworthy in this device, but then it probably isn’t meant to take on the higher-end models.

ZTE seems to be going all out lately, with a plethora of Android smartphones in its lineup that they have been showing off, no doubt fueled by their new found position in the largest phone manufacturers list. One can only hope that the art of software updates doesn’t get lost in the constant release of new devices, and that ZTE can also come up with phones that look a bit more visually appealing.
