Samsung Galaxy S3 tops smartphone sales for Q3 2012

Move over everyone (Includes other droids as well as fruit phones), make way for the new king of the global smartphone market – the Samsung Galaxy S3. Samsung’s sequel to last year’s widely successful Galaxy S2 has smashed all sales records with 18 million units sold in Q3, and commanding almost 11% of the global smartphone market share. Apple’s iPhone 5 which was released towards the end of the Q3, sold 6 million units and picked up a 3.6% market share.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a pedigree that can be matched by few, if any, current day OEM handset lineups. With its stunning 4.8″ Super AMOLED+ display, and cutting edge hardware and features, the Galaxy S3 was instrumental in helping Samsung post a record $7.3 billion operating profit in Q3. The handset has been wickedly popular equally across geographies, and continues to be despite newer handset releases like Samsung’s own Galaxy Note 2.

Whatever Samsung is going to come up with in 2013, is going to have some very large shoes to fill, and then some.
