Verizon Moto Z Droid and Droid Force Nougat (NCL25.86-11) Root Status

The Verizon Moto Z Droid and Droid Force Android 7.0 Nougat update is currently on the roll as we speak. The OTA comes with build number NCL25.86-11.

While this is a happy news, some of you might also be concerned about rooting Moto Z and Z Force on Nougat. But the truth is the Verizon variants of the device didn’t had root on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow builds either. So you’re not losing on root anyway by taking the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA.

Moto Z and Z Force have so far attracted very less customers. So we doubt if it’ll create enough interest among the third-party developers to give their precious time to break into Moto Z’s code and find an exploit/vulnerability to take advantage of and get rot access.

We’re hopeful if someone knowledgeable is willing to test the Dirty Cow vulnerability on Linux kernel that is also present on all Android devices launched till date. It has already been presented as a proof-of-concept to root Android with Dirty Cow. So maybe this can help root Moto Z Droid as well.

We’ll be sure to update this post if we come across any successful attempts to root Moto Z Droid and Droid Force on Android 7.0 Nougat. Stay tuned..

Happy Androiding!
