Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8+ receive an OTA update too

Verizon Galaxy S8 update

Verizon has already started tending to their newly launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The carrier is currently pushing out updates identified as software version G950USQU1AQD9 and G955USQU1AQD9 for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ respectively.

In case you thought it would begin with G950V or G955V, well, things are different with the S8, as builds for USA devices — look at T-Mobile S8 update here — come with G950U and G955U for S8 and S8+ respectively.

This new update doesn’t just apply the latest security patch, but also resolves a few issues and adds various software enhancements. These adjustments and under-the-hood optimizations contribute to a much better user experience.

As you very well know, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature Samsung’s baby, which is none other than the bezel-less Infinity Display. With this build, apps will now be able to take full advantage of all that screen real estate by making use of the new display ratio, 16.74:9.

The update now brings an additional way to answer calls without having to touch the screen at all. You now have the option of using the Volume Up button to answer calls instead. The camera icon has been redesigned to conform to the design of other stock apps. Notification badges for apps now feature in the same color, which is whole let less confusing.

Before downloading the update, make sure that your device is charged to at least 50% and also ensure that your data is backed up securely. We tell you to do so, in case something unexpectedly happens to go wrong during the installation process. Also, download the update via WiFi to save on additional data charges.

And BTW, it removes the ability to remap the Bixby button to anything else — yes, there was trick that allowed you to, let’s say open Google Assistant using Bixby button, but Samsung is looking to force this to you. Duh!
