LG has made it official that it plans to release the much coveted Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its 2014 flagship, G3. In its homeland, LG has already rolled out Lollipop for both G3 and G2 but outside Korea (and umm, Poland), G3 sets in US are first to receive Lollipop update from LG.
LG Mobile shared the news on its US twitter account, which is why we’re inclined to believe it’s headed to US only, although we wouldn’t be much surprised if international G3 sets get 5.0 build, too.
Android 5.0 is obviously the most exciting update to Android, not just because it’s the latest one, but mainly because of the Material design it brings, but LG G3 users won’t notice that much of a difference in what they are seeing now as, say, Nexus users, who get pure Android build as developed by Google.
Good news though, LG doesn’t quite overwhelm you like Samsung, and its changes to stock Android aren’t something you’d end up hating. LG sticks to Google’s designs a lot, and doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel everywhere like Samsung would, or a custom ROM like MIUI. Overall, we loved LG’s UI on KitKat, and Lollipop is no different on our own international G3, model no. D855, which received a leak a while ago.
Meanwhile, there have been leaks of Lollipop update for Galaxy S4 and HTC One M7, two popular Android devices that we think will get official Lollipop update very soon.
