Update Galaxy Note to XXLC1, Latest Gingerbread Android 2.3.6 Firmware

While owners of the Galaxy Note all over the world wait for the Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 update to be released for it, Samsung hasn’t stopped working on the Gingerbread firmware yet, resulting in another GB firmware for the Note. XXLC1 is the latest Android 2.3.6 firmware for the Galaxy Note to be leaked on the internet, and you can flash it on your Note using the step by step procedure given below.

Read on to find out how you can update your Galaxy Note to XXLC1 firmware.

Compatibility

This firmware and the guide below are compatible only and only with Galaxy Note, model number N7000. It’s not compatible with any other device. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About phone.

Warning!

The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.

Pre-installation Requirements

  1. This procedure will wipe your apps and data (but will not touch the SD cards), so backup your Apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you.
  2. If you have Samsung’s PC software Kies installed, un-install it first because it may interrupt the flashing process.
  3. Drivers! — it’s important you’ve the proper drivers installed. If you have installed Kies, you already have the drivers, so download them only if your Note doesn’t get detected.
    Download links: 32 bit (x86) Windows  |   64-bit (x64) Windows

How to Install XXLP1 on your Galaxy Note

  1. Download the firmware.
    Download Link  |  Filename: N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1_OXA.zip  |  Size: 549 MB
  2. Extract the downloaded zip file once to get the following files (you might see the file name end with .tar instead of .md5 as the file extension is usually hidden, so it’s normal):
    1. GT-N7000-MULTI-CSC-OXALC1.tar.md5
    2. MODEM_N7000XXLB2_REV_05_CL1106002.tar.md5
    3. CODE_N7000XXLC1_CL1003701_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
  3. Download Odin 1.85 from → here.
    Filename: Odin 1.85.zip | Size: 199 KB
  4. Extract the contents of the Odin 1.85.zip file to a folder.
  5. Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Switch Off your Galaxy Note. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
  6. Now, put the Galaxy Note in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Home + Power. A Warning! screen will come up; press Volume Up key to continue to enter Download Mode.
  7. Open Odin (from step 3) — double-click the Odin3 v1.85.exe that you got after extracting the file Odin 1.85.zip.
  8. Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added!” under Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed. See point 3 above under ‘pre-installation tips’.
  9. Now, in ODIN, select these files in the respective tabs:
    1. Click the PDA tab, and select the file CODE_N7000XXLC1_CL1003701_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 (from step 2.3)
    2. Click MODEM tab, and select the file MODEM_N7000XXLB2_REV_05_CL1106002.tar.md5 (from step 2.2)
    3. Click the CSC tab, and select the file GT-N7000-MULTI-CSC-OXALC1.tar.md5 (from step 2.1)
  10. Important! Do not make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required files as given in step 9. Leave all other options as they are.
  11. Now, hit the START button to start flashing of XXLC1 on your Galaxy Note. When the flashing is complete, your phone will automatically reboot — and when you see the Samsung logo, you can safely unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
IMPORTANT Note: If ODIN gets stuck and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, or you get a FAIL message (with red background) in ODIN, do the following:

Disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 7.

  12. If you run into any roadblocks while flashing the firmware, let us know and we’ll help you out.

You have successfully flashed XXLC1, the latest Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread firmware for the Galaxy Note. Share your thoughts on the firmware in the comments below.

  25. Do we lose the warranty of the device once we root it….??

    1. Yes, you may lose warranty. Although, mostly service center guys don’t even get to know you’ve rooted your phone and as such ignore this. Anyway, you can flash the firmware for your region back (and not root it) to restore the warranty — good when you plan to sell the device, or return it to service center for some reason.

  31. I have hit a road block, after successful install it is asking me for a password. How do I bypass this, or what is the password?
    Thanks

    1. That’s because you had entered a sim lock password I guess. But anyway, entering any password, it will fail but keep doing it until it asks stopping password.

  34. is this stock rom so it won’t increase the flash count right?

    1. Each time you use Download Mode of your phone to flash a (stock) firmware or kernel on it, it will increase the flash counter. It’s okay, though, nothing to be wary of.
