The unlocked variants of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were available for pre-order on Samsung US site for some time now, but today onwards, you will be able to buy them from retail stores too. In fact, you have choice between unlocked mode, too — and a pretty confusing one — as Samsung is selling two types of unlocked handsets in US. Why? Well, no idea.
Actually, while Samsung is offering the SM-G950U and SM-G955U models (Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus respectively), which is something we expected too, it’s also offering international models too in unlocked form, which are identified as SM-G950F and SM-G955F.
Well, usually choice is good, but that doesn’t seem to be applying here. First up, the international variant costs a bit more than US proper one, while the international also doesn’t support the WCDMA network completely. So, it won’t work on carriers like Verizon and Sprint as you’d expect.
Because only US models (ending with U) support GSM and WCDMA network fully, you can use this one on any carrier in USA.
The only caveat here is that the US unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ are offered only in the midnight black option. Tough luck. If you’re looking for more color options, the international will deliver as the flagships come in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Maple Gold and Coral Blue, with the latter limited to the Galaxy S8.
If you haven’t already seen it, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are gorgeous devices thanks to their sleek form factor and bezel-less display. Both the flagships are powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC and come with 4GB of RAM, 64GB ROM and a fantastic 12MP camera.

Both devices feature many state of the art tech like the Iris scanner, IP68 water and dust resistance, etc. so you’ll be getting a lot you pay for.
