Well, Android 5.1.1 update is rolling out for a number of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge variants but the international G925I variant is yet to receive the update. And while most of us would just wait, the adventurous among us can try and install the G925F build of Android 5.1.1 to their G925I variants via the FlashFire app (needs root).

You can’t flash the full firmware of Android 5.1.1 build for G925F variant to your G925I variant, but you can selectively flash only the system and boot partition from the 925F firmware to 925I using the FlashFire app. By doing it this way you also save yourself from updating the bootloader, and hence keep window open for downgrading to Android 5.0.2 builds.

Download the full Android 5.1.1 firmware for G925F variant from the link below and then follow the instructions to learn how to selectively update using the FlashFire app.

Instructions

ROOT ACCESS REQUIRED

  1. Extract the XEU-G925FXXU2BOFJ-20150622181219.zip firmware zip file to get the actual .tar.md5 firmware file (G925FXXU2BOFJ_G925FOXA2BOFJ_G925FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5).
  2. Transfer the G925FXXU2BOFJ_G925FOXA2BOFJ_G925FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5 file to your Galaxy S6 edge (925I).
  3. Increase your device’s sleep time to maximum possible from Settings » Display » Sleep (select 10 mins or 30 mins).
  4. Install FlashFire beta app from the Play Store. For this, join the app’s Google+ community first to get into the beta program, become a tester and then finally be able to download/install the app from Play Store.
  5. Open FlashFire app, Grant it root access and Agree to its disclaimer note.
  6. Now tap on the + floating icon on the FlashFire app » select “Flash firmware package” from there and then select the .tar.md5 firmware file that we transferred to device in Step 2 above.
  7. [!important] Once firmware file is loaded, make sure you untick/uncheck the “Preload/Hidden” and “Modem Firmware” checkboxes. This is to prevent bootloader upgrade and keep your current Modem (for network).
  8. Tap the right checkmark on the top right corner of pop-up screen.
  9. Now on the main screen, select EverRoot and untick/uncheck all the checkboxes, then tap the right checkmark on top-right corner again.
  10. And now finally hit the Flash button on bottom of the screen begin flashing.

Once flashing process finishes, your device will automatically reboot with Android 5.1.1 on-board. Enjoy!

Stuck in Bootloop?

Just in case you get stuck in bootloop. Boot into recovery mode » and do a factory reset. Bootloop will be fixed.

Root access?

PingPong Root won’t work anymore if you want root access. But developer g.lewarne has developed a custom kernel with auto-root that you can flash via Odin or FlashFire. Check out the link below:

Official firmwares are out for G925I. I hope you didn’t try the tricky G925F firmware?

  2. I downloaded the 925I ROM, but I think the problem was from Flashfire,,, So I Flashed the ROM again using Odin (meant flashed the hidden partition and modem too), Now it wokrs like a charm, I don’t care about tripping knox or Lollipop 5.0.2… So I did it and succeed
