Toshiba Excite is the World’s Slimmest Tablet, and Probably the Best, too.

We’re completely just blown by the just announced Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7’s spec-sheet, which makes Tab 7.7 as the world’s lightest, brightest and slimmest tablet. The Tab 7.7 is just 7.89 mm thick, but here comes a surprise from Toshiba, in and as their new tablet – Toshiba Excite, which is just 7.7 mm thick, and thus cancels out Tab 7.7’s claim of world’s slimmest tablet, within a matter of hours the Tab claiming it, ironically!

The difference is marginal, just .19 mm, but we understand Tab 7.7 would be feeling a bit depressed by this, but there’s hope given by the history itself: Samsung actually revamped its Tab 10.1 earlier this year to make it thinner — at 8.6 mm — than the iPad 2’s 8.7 mm. Chances are very much that Samsung would do that again as the launch time nears for Tab 7.7, making it thinner-err than even the Excite’s 7.7 mm. Wouldn’t be a hard job for Sammy, right?

Toshiba revealed their 10.1 inch tablet at ongoing event, IFA, where Samsung unveiled its Tab 7.7 too. Other than the 7.7 mm thick body, Toshiba Excite boasts of 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor, 10.1 inch LED backlit LCD display with WXGA (16:10 ratio) resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 5 MP rear cam and 2 MP front cam, latest Android OS version, 3.2 – Honeycomb, 1 GB RAM, up to 64 GB internal memory, stereo speakers, etc all packed into 256 mm x 176 mm x 7.7 mm body — impressive!

Honestly, we think Toshiba Excite makes the best tablet around. It’s good at everything, except the display, which I think Tab 10.1 has better as far as the current tablets go. Otherwise, Tab 7.7 is still a tablet to beat, by far margins, except that its display is a bit less at 7.7 inches, which many people don’t like — sacrificing the precious screen real estate: bigger the better with tablets, eh!
