There’s No Ping Pong Root for Android 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 and S6 edge if you took the OTA update or flashed full firmware

Looking to get root access with Ping Pong root on the Galaxy S6 / S6 edge Android 5.1.1 update? Well, that’s not possible.

The team behind Ping Pong root tool has made it clear that kernels built after May 15th on firmware builds for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have patch for the root exploit PingPong uses. Downgrading the bootloader is one option to get PingPong working on newer builds, but that’s not possible if you updated to Android 5.1.1 by taking OTA update or by flashing the full 5.1.1 firmware via Odin.

Those who still haven’t updated to Android 5.1.1 and have their phones currently rooted can try the FlashFire app by Chainfire to selectively update the device to Android 5.1.1 and exclude the Bootloader (hidden / pre-load partition) and Recovery from being updated. This might work and is your only shot at keeping Ping Pong root working even after updating to Android 5.1.1.

And for those who’ve already updated to Android 5.1.1, know that root access is still available via a custom kernel. But unlike PingPong, rooting via a custom kernel will trip the Knox flag on your device and hence void warranty. Below are the links for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Android 5.1.1 root via custom kernel.
