The Galaxy Nexus has Male TTS voice??

Male Voice in Galaxy Nexus

This is really odd to learn about, but I just saw a member at xda asking for the good old female TTS voice for the Galaxy Nexus. He said the new voice in the Galaxy Nexus is Male. Really?

I’d have tried it myself, but I don’t have the Galaxy Nexus, I even ran through a couple of reviews of the phone and duhh..!! Nobody said a single thing about the male TTS voice, maybe the reviewers didn’t noticed.

Anyway, about the new male voice the post at the forum by moa77 says:

The UK voice was a quality female one, which worked very well. The new one ok the Nexus is male and far worse. The pronunciation of words is far worse with this, it make many more mistakes. A big step backwards, I hate it.

So if all that is true, it surely means the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has the male TTS voice too. Geez! that’s really bad. Having a female companion on your beloved phone is always a good thing. What do you think?

And BTW if you know a way around getting the female (Pico TTS) voice back, then please do share it at the source link or here in the comments below.

  1. Who gives a toss, Go install Ivona or loquendo and be rid of the crappy PICO TTS trash

      Good suggestions, indeed.

I thought we should give market links to these cool software, so here they are:

Ivona (free app) – Loquendo (paid app) –

Ivona is not compatible with Ice Cream Sandwich yet.

To go back to The female voice simply press.the options key on the launcher screen and tap manage apps. Slide the top bar on the manage apps screen to the left and tap all. Find goole text to speach engine and tap it. Tap disable. Now go to the market and download speachsynthesis data installer and run it. Female voice is now restored. 🙂
