How to Take a Partial Screenshot on Android Marshmallow using Android N-ify Xposed Module

Someone from the Android developer community recently found a code in Android Nougat source code which relates to taking a partial screenshots on Android devices running on Nougat. By partial screenshot, we mean taking screenshots of only the particular area of screen, not the whole of it.

You might have wanted to take a partial or say cropped screenshot of screen on your Android phone a number of times, might have even cropped screenies later using a photo editor app. But thanks to support for partial screenshot on Android Nougat, you can now take cropped screenshot directly on an Android device.

Since this feature was found in Android Nougat source code, of course, folks running their Android devices on Marshmallow couldn’t get it working right off. But thanks to the Android N-ify Xposed module, you can now enable partial screenshot on Marshmallow devices as well.

To enable the feature you need to install Xposed framework on your device first, for which you need TWRP recovery and root access. Xposed can be installed via Magisk as well, which we recommend over the official Xposed framework installer for many reasons.

Once you’ve Xposed framework installed on your device, download and install the Android N-ify Xposed module from the download link below and follow the instructions to enable it.

1. Install and activate the Android N-ify Xposed module on your device from Xposed installer.
2. Open Android N-ify module app/settings.
3. Go to About section of the module » and tap the logo a few times to enable Experimental settings.
4. Once enabled, open Experimental settings in the app » tick/check the Enable partial screenshot feature.
5. Now take a few screenshots until partial screenshot feature takes over and let’s you select what you want to capture on the screen.
