ZTE Grand Era U985 Specifications: 4.5″ HD display and quad-core processor in 7.9mm body!

ZTE has announced the Grand Era U985 Android smartphone, which houses a 4.5″ HD 720p display and a quad-core Tegra 3 processor in a 7.9mm thin body. While the smartphone has an average thickness is 8.6mm, the Grand Era is 7.9mm at its thinnest point, which ZTE finds reason enough to call the device “the world’s slimmest quad-core smartphone”.

Regarding other specs, the ZTE Grand Era U985 has an 8MP BSI AF HD main camera and 1.3MP front camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable to 32GB with microSD card), Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and an 1,800 mAh battery.

According the ZTE, the U985 adheres to an expert-class hardware and software safety protection standard called “Palm Manager,” developed in-house by ZTE. One good thing that ZTE did is to opt for the virtual navigation buttons instead of hardware/capacitive ones (though this means the usable screen estate is less than 4.5” except when watching movies).

The Grand Era U985 will be released in a couple of days in China, with support for the local TD-SCDMA network. We aren’t expecting it to cross the Chinese border, but you aren’t either, right?
