Why Among Us for Xbox and PS4 has not released yet? And when will it.

With over 1.5 million active players, Among Us has reached newer heights of online multiplayer gaming. The game is played in sessions of 4-10 players who work together to ensure survival but like any space movie you might have watched previously, there’s an alien shapeshifter whose aim is to kill all who are on board the spaceship.

After a slow start since its development in 2018, the game’s popularity has reached beyond its expectations with Innersloth struggling to handle the current load of players. If you’re someone who owns either one of the two most popular gaming consoles Xbox or PS4 and you’re wondering whether Among Us can be played on your device, the following post should help you resolve all your queries.

Is Among Us on PS4 and Xbox?

As of October 15, Among Us is not playable on any gaming console out there. This includes the PS4 and Xbox and if you own either of these, there’s no way for you to play Among Us on your device. However, the game’s developer Innersloth has said that work is in progress toward releasing Among Us on consoles some time in the future.

Why Among Us hasn’t released yet on PS4 and Xbox

To answer this, InnerSloth programmer Forest Willard said during a Twitch stream that the game developer is currently thinking about releasing Among Us in consoles but it’s easier said than done. While there are many things to consider when developing a game for consoles, Willard pointed out that the biggest of the obstacles is to create a unique way for players to communicate, according to Inverse.

[It] is something we’re starting to talk about. But we’d have to write a system for quick comms. I don’t know if we’d be able to implement console voice chat or not. One of the first things we’d want to add is a friend’s list type of account system, because it’s so hard to do anything without it.

Currently, Among Us players rely on Discord and other third-party voice chat apps to communicate with each other during a game. Among Us doesn’t offer an in-game voice chat feature of its own but only has a text-based chatroom to communicate with other players.

If in the future, Among Us gets released in gaming consoles, Innersloth should be able to use Xbox Live’s or PlayStation Network’s voice chat features. This might be a challenge since InnerSloth would require access to host voice chats and make its voice-chat functionality compatible across all platforms

But the problems don’t stop there. For users who do not wish to use the in-game voice chat, Innersloth should also be able to figure out a way to communicate without voice. For that, players would require a keyboard (and a mouse) that they can connect to their PS4 or Xbox console in order to chat with others.

Among Us PS4 and Xbox release

If you’re hoping to see console ports of Among Us on your Ps4 or Xbox devices, then we suggest that you don’t. There’s little to no chance that Among Us’ current version comes to either of the two console platforms and if such a thing even gets to development, you should expect it when Among Us 2 is announced sometime in the future.

However, Innersloth recently dropped the idea of releasing Among Us 2 but instead confirmed a future significant update to the current version of Among Us. So, it’s best left to not expect a console version go Among Us before mid-late 2021 since that’s when the next big update to the indie game is about to release.

Will PS4 get Among Us before Xbox?

With no confirmation on whether Among Us is coming to either gaming console, we can’t clearly say which platform between Xbox and PS4 will first get the game. We can expect insights from Innersloth’s console development when we near the end of this year or early 2021.

So to answer your question, you will have to wait for a while till you get to play Among Us on your favorite gaming console.
