Sony Xperia Z5 Premium gets unofficial TWRP recovery

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z5 Premium back in 2015 and at the time, the phone came preinstalled with Android 5.1 Lollipop, which has since been upgraded to Android 7.0. With Nougat, that was the end of the road for the Xperia Z5 Premium as far as official OS upgrades are concerned, but thanks to the never-disappointing Android development community, the phone has been receiving constant unofficial software support over the time, the latest of them targeting fans of TWRP recovery.

Although not official, users of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium can now enjoy unofficial TWRP support on this device, a move that means the door to tweak the phone to one’s liking is wide open. However, being an unofficial build, this version of TWRP 3.2.1 isn’t perfect.

Apparently, known issues include decryption, CPU temperature, and a partially loading bar. As for the rest, everything is fine, including things like MTP support, USB OTG storage support, and ADB root, but keep in mind that using this software requires an unlocked bootloader.

Another thing worth keeping in mind is that this version of TWRP is targeting the Xperia Z5 Premium variant with model number E6853, which is the single-SIM variant. It remains to be seen what transpires for the other variants of this device.
