Sony Theme Creator tool now supports Android 7.0 Nougat

Android is all about customization and that’s what makes the platform so popular. However, there is only so much that Android can do when it comes to changing the appearance of your phone. Of course, you can root your device and add a ton of options. But if you want native theme support, then you probably have to rely on custom skins, unless you are running Android 8.0 Oreo on your device.

Sony was among the first ones to introduce theming back in 2015, they also announced the theme creator tool to allow anyone to develop a custom theme. However, back then, the support was limited to Android Lollipop and now fast-forward a couple of years later, Sony is keeping it up to date.

The Sony theme creator today received an update with full support for Android 7.0 Nougat, and some cool new live wallpaper features. The company added a handful of other useful features as well, let’s have a look at them below.

Improved layer hierarchy

The improved layer hierarchy now allow developers to add a sub-layer, which will share all the effects that are being added to the parent layer. On top of that, developers can also create a group of layers so that they all have the same effect.

Advanced Animation Editor

The new advanced animation editor now supports different sound effects as well. The frame in the animator can now have different transition time, duration, etc. This will allow developers to further create more realistic animations and live wallpapers.

Adding custom URLs within the theme

This feature essentially allows the developers to add a custom link to any given object. Upon interacting with it, the link will be triggered and the default web browser will pop up.

Adding Sounds to the wallpapers

The modifier now allows the developers to add and play sounds to the wallpapers. This should allow for an interactive home screen setup where the elements will respond with sounds.

You can download the Sony Theme Creator and check out all these new features yourself.

Happy theme building!
