Sony Xperia Z4/Z3+ gains VoLTE support unofficially

Sony Xperia Z4

Do you own a Sony Xperia Z3+ or Z4? Well, then you’ll be glad to know that the pair has gained VoLTE support, although unofficially.

The active members of the XDA Developers community have recently provided owners of the two Xperia phones with a port that enables this functionality on board their device.

Given that the Xperia X3+ and Z4 are based on the same chipset as the Xperia Z5, which has official VoLTE support, it’s quite evident that the two models do have the hardware needed to support VoLTE.

So if you’re up to it and have a rooted Sony Xperia Z3+ or Z4, just go to XDA and follow the instructions in the post to get VoLTE working on your phone.

You’ll need a few things to do that including the rooted stock firmware included in the thread.

Note the VoLTE port is available for the E6553 and E6533 models (both single and dual SIM versions).

In case you don’t know VoLTE is the ability to use more bandwidth to make phone calls with higher quality audio traveling both ways. When you’re on a call with someone else who is using VoLTE, you’ll immediately notice the difference in call quality. However, not all carriers offer VoLTE, so you should check with yours before installing the port on your device.
