Share location from your Android phone using Share Where Location Widget

With most modern-day phones being shipped with inbuilt GPS modules, and practically all social networking apps making use of the GPS location, location-sharing, for fun or otherwise is not an unusual concept.

However, the ability to use location-sharing to a pre-defined set of recipients in a single click is definitely a feature that can be handy, especially if you land up in an emergency situation and want to let your friends or family member know exactly where you are.

Share Where Location Widget, developed by Ola Bjurmero lets you do just that. Share Where is a widget that allows you to send a predefined message along with your GPS location to multiple recipients via email/SMS or any of your social networking or communication apps, with a single click. The recipient gets your message, as well as your location which is presented as a Google Maps link. Quite a useful feature to have handy, I must say.

You can specify the recipients and your custom message when creating the widget and it will send it out when clicked. You can optionally choose to be presented with a confirmation screen that lets you edit the message, and the recipients (or cancel the operation) before the messages are sent. The app automatically picks up your current location from the GPS if it’s enabled. Otherwise the network location, which may not be as accurate, is used. If no current location can be determined, the last known location will be used.

Share Where comes in two flavors – a Lite version which is pretty stripped down and lets you add one large widget and specify upto 2 recipients only, for notification via either Email or SMS. The full featured Pro version however, comes for $0.99, but lets you define multiple recipients as well as share your location via other social networking apps like Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and even IMs like IMO messenger.
