GUIDE: INSTALL TWRP ON SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 GT-N8000

Before you begin with the instructions below, make sure your android device is adequately charged — at least 50% battery of the device.

STEP 0: CHECK DEVICE MODEL NO.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be GT-N8000!

Please know that this page is meant only for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Please DO NOT try the procedures given here on other variants of the Galaxy Note 10.1 or on any other device of Samsung or any other company. You have been Warned!

  STEP 1: BACKUP YOUR DEVICE

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on the internal memory, too.

For help on Backup and Restore, check out our exclusive page on that linked right below.

Now Super User request will be prompted on your screen. Grant the permission for the SuperSu app.

  7. Use the following command to flash the recovery. For this type/Paste the below commands inside the command prompt:

    • Odin3 v3.09.exe
    • Odin3.ini
    • openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-gt-n8000.tar
  3. Disconnect the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 from PC if it is connected.
  4. Double-click the Odin3-v3.09.exe file to open Odin.
  5. Boot your Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 into Download Mode:
    1. Power off your phone first. Wait for 6-7 seconds after display is off.
    2. Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power.
    3. Press Volume Up now to continue to Download Mode.
  6. Connect your Galaxy Note 10.1 to PC. Odin window will show an Added!! message in bottom left box. Odin’s screen would look like this:Odin 3.09 - Samsung-Galaxy-Odin-Device-Added-Screenshot
If you don’t get the Added! message, here are some troubleshooting tips:
    • Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy Note 10.1 as said above in STEP 2.
    • If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and reinstall back.
    • Connect using a different USB port on your PC.
    • Try a different USB cable. The original cable that came with your phone should work best, if not, try any other cable that’s new and of good quality.
    • Reboot your phone and PC and then try again.
  7. Load the recovery file in .tar form into Odin as instructed below:
    • Click on the AP button on Odin and select the openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-gt-n8000.tar file (from step 2). Your Odin window should look like the screenshot below:
      canada-sasmsung-s4-twrp-odin-file-name-added
  8. Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)
  9. Double check the above two steps. (Step 7 and Step 8)
  10. Click the Start button to begin flashing, and wait until you see a PASS! message in Odin’s top left box.
  11. When you get PASS! message, your device will restart automatically. You can then disconnect your phone from PC.Odin 3.09 - Samsung-Galaxy-Odin-PASS-screenshot

If you see FAIL message instead of the PASS in Odin’s top left box, that’s a problem. Try this now: disconnect your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 from PC, close Odin, reboot your device in Download mode by pressing the same combination of keys as explained in Step 5, then open Odin and repeat from Step 2 of this guide again.

Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then too, try this: disconnect your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 from PC, close Odin, reboot your device in Download mode by pressing the same combination of keys as explained in Step 5, then open Odin and repeat from Step 2 of this guide again.

That’s all. If you need help regarding this, feel free to ask us in comments below.

  11. Alexander Riegelnegg

Hi, i tried your tutorial with different version of ODIN and TWRP. To apply the TWRP to the GT-N8000 is not the problem, but after the restart i always run into the same problem: System is booting either normally into original Andorid, or if i boot, using “louder” and “Power” the booting starts until “Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1” appears and there the System is freezing. Tab is not rooted …. would this be necessary? LineageOS is already copied to internal Memory, but i never get the chance to get that far, to apply the new OS.

  12. Done!!!

  13. This TWRP 2.7.1 do not play on N8000 rom oreo

  14. good its working! thanks!
