Mira Android App: A Siri like Voice Assistant App

The iPhone 4S was an upgrade over the iPhone 4 in quite a few areas, but the most talked about and well-known feature of the iPhone 4S was definitely the intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator, Siri. Siri uses voice recognition to answer questions, make recommendations and perform actions depending on what you ask or say to it and soon became one of the most useful features of the iPhone 4S. Needless to say, Android developers soon started working on similar apps that could do what Siri does on the iPhone 4S.

One such app is Mira, which touts itself as ‘an intelligent and semantic Siri for Android’. Originally named Sara, Mira uses Google voice recognition and works off an offline database that is saved on your phone (unlike Siri which relays questions and commands to a web server first), and uses it to answer your questions and perform functions that you ask it to perform.

Here are some of the features of Mira:

  • Database and algorithm are served offline
  • Works offline with a text box
  • Learns your name and uses it for all interaction
  • Can grab weather information
  • Can grab location information
  • Tells you the time

At this point, there’s not much Mira can do, but the developer promises to include more features and functions as time goes by. We will have to wait and see if it really does turn out to be ‘an intelligent Siri for Android’ as development progresses.

Try out Mira yourself by heading over to the app’s development page on XDA to get the download links and additional information on the app. Don’t forget to suggest a few sentences that you think Mira should know, in the development page. Do let us know how the app works for you, and whether it answers your questions right, in the comments below. Mira awaits!
