Root Nexus 7 2012 on Android 5.0 Lollipop with CF Auto Root

Earlier today we received the Nexus 7 Android 5.0 Lollipop factory image leaked straight from Google’s own servers. Google never officially announced it that Nexus 7 would get the Android 5.0 update but surprisingly a factory image leaked out of nowhere and it works flawlessly on the Nexus 7 2012.

Nexus 7 2012, the first Nexus tablet ever has already seen its end of life as far as updates are considered. It’s Google’s policy to support a device for updates only until 18 months of its launch, but Google just won Android users hearts by pushing out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Nexus 7.

Anyway, being a Nexus device and having support from developers like Chainfire, the Nexus 7 2012 couldn’t go long without getting root for its newest update, Android 5.0 Lollipop. Chainfire has just updated the Cf Auto Root for Nexus 7 2012 with support for Lollipop.

Chainfire’s root is a one-click method and requires an unlocked bootloader. The Nexus 7 2012 is already an old device so you don’t have anything to worry about losing the warranty upon unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device. Besides, Chainfire’s root method is a safe shot to install. Although, make sure that you backup all your important files on the tablet because unlocking the bootloader will wipe/delete everything on your tablet.

Without further ado, let’s download the Cf Auto root file on your PC and root your Nexus 7 2012 running on Lollipop.

Download Nexus 7 (2012) CF Auto Root (9.79 MB)
File name: CF-Auto-Root-grouper-nakasi-nexus7.zip

Simpler instructions:

  1. Boot into bootloader mode via adb or hardware buttons.
  2. Connect your Nexus 7 to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. Unzip the CF-Auto-Root-grouper-nakasi-nexus7.zip file on your computer.
  4. Run the root-windows.bat file.

Enjoy!
