Galaxy A50 update: Will it receive Android Q?

Galaxy A50 Android Q update

After prolonged periods of losing out to Chinese companies in the budget and midrange smartphone segment, Samsung in 2019 came out guns blazing with a new series of Galaxy A devices, among them the Galaxy A50.

A lot of hype has been building up around the Galaxy A50 and understandably, it’s because of the crazy value for money this device offers. For about $300 or lower depending on where you buy it, the A50 packs the following specs:

  • 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Exynos 9610 processor
  • 4/64GB
  • Tri-lens 25MP + 8MP + 5MP main camera
  • 25MP selfie camera
  • 4000mAh battery

The icing on the cake must be the in-display fingerprint scanner, a feature not even the pricier Galaxy S10e gets to have. You also get other stuff like 15W fast charging, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and so on.

Software-wise, there’s Android 9 Pie preinstalled, which brings us to the question: will the Galaxy A50 receive Android Q? If yes, when?

Well, for now, Samsung hasn’t said a thing about this, but we can guarantee that the Galaxy A50 will be upgraded to Android Q. Looking at how fast Samsung was with Android Pie updates once it started rolling the software out in late 2018, an early Q2 2020 release date for Android Q seems plausible for A50 users.

Also, we expect to see Android R making its way to the Galaxy A50 at some point in 2021, but that’s a story for another day.
