TWRP Recovery for New HTC One 2014 (M8) with One Click Installer!

  GUIDE: TWRP RECOVERY FOR NEW HTC ONE 2014 (M8)

Before you begin with guide instructions below, make sure your android device is adequately charged — at least 50% battery of the device.

  STEP 0: CHECK DEVICE MODEL NO.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be M8!

Do not use the procedures discussed here on any other variant of New HTC One 2014 (M8) or any other device of HTC or any other company. You have been warned!

  STEP 1: BACKUP YOUR DEVICE

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on the internal memory, too.

  STEP 2: INSTALL LATEST DRIVER

You must have proper and working driver installed on your windows computer to be able to successfully flash TWRP Recovery on your New HTC One 2014 (M8). If you are not sure, follow the link below for a definitive guide for installing driver for your HTC One (M8) on your computer.

 STEP 3: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER

 Skip this step if your device is already bootloader unlocked.

Use must first unlock the bootloader on your HTC One (M8) before proceeding with the guide below. Without unlocking the bootloader you won’t be able to use fastboot commands to flash the recovery on your device.

   STEP 4: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Download the one click TWRP installer zip file given below. Transfer installer zip file to a separate folder on your computer just to keep things tidy.

  STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Important Note: Backup important files stored on internal SD card of your device, so that in case a situation arises requiring you to do a factory reset after flashing TWRP Recovery, which might delete internal sd card too, your files will remain safe on PC.

  1. Prepare your phone:
    • Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times to enable developer options.
    • Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” check-box (under Debugging section).
  2. Connect your phone to PC with a USB cable and if a pop-up screen shows up on phone asking you to Allow USB debugging for the computer, make sure you tick the checkbox and tap OK.

  3. Disable Fastboot! On your HTC One (M8), go to Settings » select Power (or Battery) and there, look for the option Fast boot. Make sure you it is not checked, and is thus disabled, so that you can fully Power Off your device to be able to boot into fastboot mode.
  4. Extract the installer file TWRP RECOVERY FOR NEW HTC ONE 2014 (M8).zip (using 7-zip free software, preferably). You’ll get the following files, and one folder:
    • api (folder)
    • 1-click-twrp-recovery-installer.bat
    • adb.exe
    • AdbWinApi.dll
    • AdbWinUsbApi.dll
    • fastboot.exe
    • openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m8_0.6.img
    • source.properties
  5. Double-click/Run the ‘1-click-twrp-recovery-installer.bat’  file and follow the simple on-screen instructions like ‘Press any key to continue..’ to install TWRP recovery on your HTC One (M8).
  6. Once the TWRP recovery is flashed successfully on your HTC One (M8), your device will reboot automatically into your newly flashed TWRP Recovery.
    └Note: In case the script gets stuck on < waiting for device > (see image below) for more than a minute or so, then it means you don’t have proper drivers installed on your computer for your HTC One 2014 (M8). Follow the drivers installation guide provided above for troubleshooting driver and other connectivity issues.

  1. Mine keeps hanging at the sending recovery step. Tried it both with 1 click method as well as manually.

    1. Updated the 1 click script with small command: fastboot erase cache. Should work now. Try and let me know 🙂

  4. Sprint HTC ONE M8
    Unlocked and got this .bat file to report success.
    Fastboot unchecked.
    1)But now when I try and go to recovery it just quickly goes to white screen with green HTC then back to fastboot screen.
    2)navigate back to Hboot/Power button
    3)select Recovery again…and it does the same loop back to 1)above
