Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition Launched in Europe for €299

Meizu has launched the MX4 Ubuntu Edition that is the third smartphone to be based on the Ubuntu platform. This device is exclusive to the European markets for now and there is no word on the global release of the device other than China. The device has already been launched in China in May for the developers.

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is priced at €299 and it is available via the official Meizu website through the invite system. The device is similar to the original Meizu MX4 smartphone expect for the Ubuntu Touch OS instead of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat platform. Canonical touts that the Ubuntu Scopes UI will make the smartphone stand out with its categorized home screens and unified view of the content in a specific category.

The Meizu MX4 flaunts a 5.3 inch display with a resolution of 1152 x 1920 pixels protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device is stuffed with a 64 bit octa core MediaTek MT6595 processor teamed up with 2 GB of RAM and PowerVR G6200 graphics card.

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition flaunts a 20 MP main snapper at its back with Sony IMX220 Exmor RS sensor, f/2.2 aperture and blue glass filter. The device boasts of a 2 MP front facer with Sony IMX208 sensor and f/2.0 aperture. The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is available only with 16 GB of native storage space unlike the Android version that comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB variants.

The connectivity aspects onboard this device includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/A-GPS. There is a 3,100 mAh battery onboard that will render a decent backup to the smartphone.
