Beware, the latest ASE5 update will freeze your Galaxy S10 phones

Sprint Galaxy S10 update fix lte

Samsung recently released a software update to the three Galaxy S10 global variants carrying the latest May 2019 security patch.

The update, which has build number ASE5, also included improvements to the stability of the camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as the usual bug fixes here and there. But from the latest reports, it seems this same update also brought with it some serious issues for all three Galaxy S10 variants.

Lots of affected Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ users of the Exynos variants are reporting freezing issues that are fixed by rebooting the phone. But before rebooting the phone, you might want to try and force close the affected app by using the steps below. Affected apps include Samsung Internet, Gallery, Twitter, WhatsApp, Nova Launcher, and possibly more.

  1. Tap the Recents key
  2. Search for the affected app using the search bar at the top in Recents screen
  3. Tap and hold the app’s icon
  4. Tap on Locate and the app icon will be displayed in the app drawer
  5. Tap and hold on the icon again
  6. Tap on App info
  7. Tap on Force close and the app will be usable again

It’s still unclear what exactly triggers this freezing issue, but it’s obvious the latest ASE5 update is the cause. That said, don’t install this update if you haven’t already, at least until Samsung releases a newer version with a fix for this issue.

We will keep an eye on the same and update this post when Samsung addresses the issue and releases a fix.

Are you affected?
