Among Us Hacks: Mobile Hack, Always Imposter Mod, How to Be Safe, and More

Among Us

Over the last few months, humanity has learned to live without routine physical interactions, hangouts, and normalcy. It has been incredibly challenging, of course, but thanks to some meticulously created tools, we’ve become accustomed to this quarantine life and everything that comes with it.

Online multiplayer and social deduction game, Among Us, has been one such rare blessing amid the raging pandemic. It has allowed us to take a breather and engage in a fun, party game for a change, let us argue with our friends and family for no apparent reason.

Unfortunately, with the soaring popularity, has come the usual flock of “low-lives”; hackers who would do anything to spoil the mood of a good casual game. Today, we’ll take a look at the reports of hacking in Among Us and tell you ways to identify whether there was any foul play.

Are there cheaters in Among Us?

Among Us happens to be the most trending party game on the planet, which, unfortunately, has made it a beacon for hackers, cheaters, and modders. The whole idea of this party game is to engage in discussions and debates with friends and find out who the imposter is.

And since it’s a social deduction game, the only legit way to find the imposter is by voting or taking eye-witnesses into account. Any other method, irrespective of how harmless they seem, is unethical and takes the fun quotient out of the game.

There indeed are cheaters in Among Us, but not all of them work the same way. The cheaters of the first kind — and the most common — don’t use fancy tools to disrupt the game.

They simply communicate with other players — who happen to be their friends — to find out who the real imposter is. Since outside communication is strictly prohibited, the under-the-table discussions among friends are highly unethical and suck the life-force out of the game.

The cheaters of the second kind are a lot more professional in their approach. They don’t depend on others — friends — to communicate and find out who the imposter is. Instead, they take it upon themselves to use various modding tools to expose the imposter, kill crew members, and rush through the map without anyone knowing.

These hackers/modders have been plaguing the game over the last month, and the reports of malpractice have been acknowledged by the independent developers of the award-winning game.

What is InnerSloth’s response to these reports?

The developing studio, InnerSloth, have seen the concerning reports across the internet and are gearing up to take appropriate measures in the near future. The team consists of only 3 developers, which has made the filtering job exceptionally difficult.

However, despite their apparent numerical disadvantage, InnerSloth has assured that a patch would be out and about very soon.

In a Discord chat with Kotaku, the programmer and business lead Forest Willard assured: “We’re rushing to get an account system in place so we can have better moderation and reporting systems built around that. Also getting help with making the servers better at detecting and blocking hacks. And investigating client-side hack prevention as well. I’m sort of scrambling to get all the right people in place, but I’m attacking it from multiple angles so it can get better in many ways hopefully all at once.

So, as we can decode from Willard’s statement, Among Us will soon have a robust reporting system to take on the cheating problem, head-on. And while it may not be able to take on conspiring friends, it could certainly take the fight to modders or aspiring hackers.

Has anyone hacked into Among Us so far?

As we’ve discussed in the previous section, there have been many modders on the platform, with varying abilities. Some modders are capable of activating instant kill, some can zap past you without drawing attention, some can call infinite emergency meetings, and so forth.

See@Poco_BrawlStars video below to see how lop-sided the game can become with a mod. The user has admittedly used it for demonstration purposes and to warn us about the demons we might encounter in Among Us.

This is one simple example of mods ruining a perfect party game. The continuous cheating and deception are turning people away, forcing them to uninstall a game they wholeheartedly enjoyed. Among Us’ subreddit is full of such complaints, rants, and tales of why they were uninstalling the much-celebrated title.

The Twitterati, too, isn’t too behind in terms of voicing dissatisfaction. They find it disgusting and believe that it goes against the spirit of the game.

“Eris Loris” spam and how you can avoid it

Reports started coming in (on Oct 22) that game’s userbase has been struggling with a new spam attack that many have come to call as “Eris Loris“. The attack is targeted in such a way that players unknowingly spam their match’s text chat with promotional message toward Eris Loris’ Youtube channel with a few of them promoting President Donald Trump’s campaign as well.

Addressing the hack, Among Us developer InnerSloth announced that it is “super duper” away of the issue and an emergency server update is being pushed to players. However, the issue still seems to persist as there have been a new bunch of reports on Twitter about spam-filled matches.

This why, Innersloth has requested players to play private games or games with those you trust.

How to hack Among Us?

As demonstrated in the previous section, cheating in Among Us goes against the spirit of the game. The game is based on communication, wit, and the ability to influence others, and applying a mod bypasses all of that only for the sake of trolling. Which is why we recommend you to not use mods.

Now, as the video tweet suggests, it is indeed possible to cheat and hack in Among Us, but the source of the said hacks/mods are exceptionally dubious.

Many videos on YouTube claim to provide the mod, but they usually turn out to be poorly-marketed malware. When installing on PC, your antivirus is likely to detect it as malware and quarantine at once. Disabling the anti-virus, on the other hand, could open your PC up to countless other threats.

See below for the mods available for mobile devices, for both Android and iOS, that let you hack the game. To hack Among Us, you will need to uninstall the official version of the game and then install the modded version of the game. This is extremely risky and could cause you harm, be warned. See the links below to get the Among Us mods that let you hack into the game.

Among Us Mod

PlatinMods have released two mods for Android and iOS. The mod is arguably the only one that works — the Twitter video is a proof of it — and is relatively easier to install. If you’re on iOS, you can find the mod here. Else, to get the mod on Android, you’ll need to click on this like, here. Be warned though, installing these apps might harm you and your device.

Among Us Imposter Hack

Well, the mods shared above allow you to do a lot of thing, one of which they claim is letting you always become an imposter in the game. It may or may not work.

Should you use mods in Among Us?

Since hundreds of thousands of users enjoy the game every day, modders can easily take their pick and disrupt a game, only for the sake of their enjoyment. Unfortunately, they don’t think about the effect their actions might have on others.

Among Us has been one of the best things to come out of this dreaded quarantine period. After months of boredom, it has allowed users to reconnect in a way that they didn’t was possible and unlocked a new mode of entertainment.

Many of us look forward to Among Us sessions, hoping for an escape from the current situation of uncertainty. Using a mod not only goes against the spirit of games in general, but it also robs others of the respite they deserve.

Among Us is a team game and doesn’t offer competitive bonuses as many other hack-prone games do. So, using mods to win won’t win you any trophies and certainly won’t make you the MVP of the gaming industry. What it can do, however, is get you banned from the game for eternity.

Among Us’ developers look pretty determined to solve the modding issue sooner than later and they’d leave no stone unturned to get users the cover they require.

Also, don’t conspire with your friends

While we’re on the subject, you should also know that conspiring with friends in a global lobby is almost as bad as using an illegal mod. You’re not held accountable for your actions, of course, and there’s no sure-fire way of identifying a violater, but it can be just as disruptive. So, even if you and your friends end up joining the same online lobby, please be respectful of the other players and refrain from exchanging information that might help in identifying the imposter.

What is tikamongus .com? Is it fake or genuine?

With the huge gain in Among Us’s popularity, numerous malicious users around the globe are looking to capitalize on this opportunity. As Among Us is a paid game for PC users and also has paid items, some websites are luring users by offering the game and the in-game items for free.

This of course is just another ruse for you to install malware/spyware on your system which will help the publisher generate revenue without providing you with an actual game or any in-game item.

A new name in this case that seems to employ this tactic is tikamongus .com. This website uses the two most popular keywords on the internet within the website’s name which should be a red flag in itself. In addition to this, it promises to offer Among Us pets, skins, and even the game for free.

However, once you proceed to get anything on the tikamoungus, it will present you with Surveys. If you fill the survey, they get a reward for that while — you guessed it — you will not yield any reward for that. Even if you manage to get a .exe file after multiple attempts it is bound to be a malicious file that will install unwanted code on your system and put all your private data at risk. So, never fill any survey and do not download anything from any websites like this!

We recommend you to stay away from such sites and use the legal means to obtain the game in order to better protect your private data as well as the network you use.

If you are a Chromebook user desperate to get the game installed on your system, then this handy guide might be helpful to you. Not only that, you can also install Among Us on your Mac and Macbook quite officially.

How to stay safe from hackers in Among Us?

From illegal mods to a conspiracy with friends — we’ve seen the ways cheaters are affecting the beloved game. All of it poses a serious threat to the Among Us environment, but there are some general tips you could keep in mind to reduce or nullify the exposure to cheating.

Use private servers only

Our first tip is the most obvious and the most effective weapon against the hoards of hackers. InnerSloth’s developers have promised to come up with a reporting system and are working tirelessly to push the timeline.

However, until the system goes live, the best course of action would be to play in private lobbies instead of public ones. That way, you’d only interact with the players you know personally and not exploited by sadistic hackers and modders.

Nevertheless, be aware that playing on a private server won’t stop friends from conspiring behind your back. So, be sure to only invite the ones you trust.

Kick suspicious users

If you don’t have enough friends in Among Us, you’re left with no other option than to take part in online matches. Since there is no filtration process in place, hackers and modders can easily waltz in and disrupt the flow of the match. Look out for instant kills, no recharge times, more than three imposters, and hyperfast movement, as these are some of the common signs of a modded user.

Since these mods can take control of the chat window, it’s almost impossible to kick them out when a session is underway. So, the only legit course of action is to kick out suspicious users when you return back to the lobby.

Wait until it’s fixed

The three developers at InneSloth are doing their level best to release a patch as soon as possible. Still, despite their best attempts, it could be a while before the hack-tracking system goes live.

If the previous two tips don’t come in handy, and you’re still stuck with hackers in random servers, we’d recommend you to sit tight for the time being and wait for Innersloth to roll out the official anti-hack.
