Galaxy S3 Launcher for Original Galaxy S i9000. Go! Go! Go!

That’s right, you know you wanted it and now you have it. The TouchWiz launcher from the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 has been ported to the Galaxy S, which should make TouchWiz fans very happy (and make the TouchWiz haters shrug it off as useless like always). Thanks to XDA Forum Member froilson, you can now use the Galaxy S3 TouchWiz launcher on your Galaxy S, on custom Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 ROMs.

NOTE: Keep in mind that the launcher may not work on all custom Android 4.0 ROMs. Also, do not try it on Gingerbread based ROMs as it’s not compatible with those.

Let’s take a look at how the Galaxy S3 TouchWiz launcher can be installed on the Galaxy S.

How to Install Galaxy S3 TouchWiz Launcher on Galaxy S

  1. Make sure your phone is running on an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
  2. Download the latest TouchWiz launcher package from the official XDA page. It will be a compressed .zip file.
  3. Copy the downloaded .zip file to the internal SD card on the phone (without extracting it).
  4. Turn off the phone. Then, boot into CWM recovery. To do so, press and hold the Volume Up + Home buttons while powering on the phone. When the screen turns on, let go of all three buttons.
In recovery, use Volume keys to scroll up and down and power key to select an option.
  5. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Scroll to the .zip file (copied in step 3) on the sdcard and select it. Confirm installation on the next page by selecting Yes.
  6. After the installation is complete, select go back and then select reboot system now to reboot your phone.

When the phone boots up, you can enjoy using the latest TouchWiz launcher from Samsung. Do let us know how it works, and if it works for you, in the comments below.

  1. I cannot install it. It says:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature.
    E: signature verification fail
    Installation aborted

How can I do with it? Please help.

    1. Have you installed ClockworkMod recovery? And also, is your phone on an Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 ROM? Also, try downloading the file again and retry.

    2. You tried good, but you need clockworkmod recovery to be able to flash/install this. Let us know which firmware you are on. Um, tell us the build number of your current firmware (check in settings – about phone), will try getting you a guide to install Clockworkmod Recovery (and root) for your device. Note: Root will void your warranty, but you can get it back by flashing a new firmware.

  2. working too good 🙂

thanks for porting and for installation info

  3. I tried many SGS 3 ported launcher on Galaxy S but finally I liked the Go Launcher it has so many options also so its really good 🙂 will go for this also and let see how it is.
thanks for sharing and btw I read it on XDA only that it needs some modification in LCD display option or something is it so?

    1. If you want options in your launcher, then you will never like TouchWiz or any other OEM launcher 🙂

    2. Ok and what about that LCD issue have to make some changes to dpi or something?

  4. hi thanks for the brill info,i am still a newbie…… this i followed to the T but it does not work i have a rooted galaxy s2 with cwm and rom manager. I have read that i need to upgrade to custom Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 ROMs for this to work? help i really want the touchwiz any idea’s

    1. This is only for the Galaxy S, not the Galaxy S2. You cannot use something for one phone on another phone, even if they are from the same company. 🙂

  10. if i installed this SGS3 launcher and i don’t like it, is it easy to bring it back to my old 4.0.4 custom ROM?

    1. Your launcher is not removed. It remains there. You can switch from one launcher to another using Home Manager android app easily. Download it from Google Play Store.

  14. Hi techmaster,

I am running the AOKP build.35 on my i9000 currently. Does this mean I am good to just install the SGS3 launcher via its zip file through the Clockworkmod recovery, then choose the SG3 launcher like how I get to choose the Nova or default launcher in my current AOKP setting??
